FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Seeing an endocrinologist may be recommended if you are dealing with conditions like diabetes, difficulty losing weight, low testosterone, thyroid disorders—including thyroid cancer, disorders of the adrenal and pituitary glands, osteoporosis, irregular menstrual periods, or other disorders linked to hormonal imbalances. Visit Hormone Health Network and NIDDK to learn more.

  • If you have a hormone-related problem that isn’t adequately addressed by your PCP, it's crucial to consult a board-certified endocrinologist, with an emphasis on 'board-certified. Many facilities and medical spas position themselves as experts in hormones, weight loss, TRT, HRT, you name it; but may not employ qualified medical professionals, much less certified endocrinologists. Your body is precious. You deserve care from someone who won't just experiment with your well-being for monetary gains.

Dr. Hasan stands out in this field. He is a double-board certified endocrinologist with over 17 years of experience in both internal medicine and endocrinology. Dr. Hasan commits to the highest standards of medical practice, using scientifically validated methods to diagnose and treat hormone related diseases. Trust your care to a proven expert who is known for integrity and excellence.

  • With the exception of Medicare Part B, which we do accept, Chia Endocrinology & Wellness is considered out-of-network with all insurance plans. We are a ‘direct specialty care’, which means we do not accept or bill health insurance for our services. This frees us up to devote more time to take excellent care of our patients. We are not bound by the time limits you may have encountered at insurance-based practices. We see anyone in need of our services regardless of insurance status.

  • We do accept Medicare Part B (also called traditional Medicare). By contrast, if you have one of the Medicare Advantage plans (e.g., UPMC, United, etc) we bill you the Medicare Allowable Fee directly and provide a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance plan for reimbursement. Please note: while “PPO” Advantage plans do reimburse out-of-network care, “HMO” plans typically do not. We recommend contacting your plan's member services for details.

  • Direct care model redefines the traditional medical practice by putting you, the patient, at the center of every decision. In this model, we remove the insurance company and corporate billing practices as the intermediary. This approach ensures that your healthcare decisions are made with your best interests in mind, not those of an insurance provider or a health system. A direct care physician generally cares for 400-500 patients total, as compared to 2000-3000 patients or more in a typical insurance-based practice. The benefits? You'll enjoy prompt appointment scheduling, longer one-on-one time with your doctor, and enhanced access to care in between appointments. You can expect to have prompt answers to email, text, and phone calls—no more waiting days for questions to be answered.

  • Dr. Hasan shifted to this model to spend more quality time with each patient. Traditional medical and billing practices demand extensive documentation and additional staff to satisfy insurance and related administrative bloat. This raises overhead costs significantly. To manage these costs, doctors typically need to see significantly more patients each day, which reduces the time and care quality they can dedicate to each individual. By moving away from the conventional insurance billing system, Dr. Hasan can focus on providing personalized, high-quality care, allowing him to manage a smaller, well-attended patient panel effectively. Simply put, we limit our panel size to enhance our care.

  • If you have a high-deductible plan, high in-network coinsurance, or high out-of-pocket maximums, all of which are common, then the direct care model may have comparable or even lower total fees. This is difficult to predict as insurance charges are generally not transparent; therefore, patients are unaware of the cost until the bill arrives after a visit. By contrast, at Chia Endocrinology & Wellness, we offer upfront transparent pricing, and you will get a far superior quality, time, and access to your doctor for the cost.

  • Yes, those services can be billed directly to your insurance, just like in traditional practices.

  • If your insurance offers out-of-network benefits our office can provide a Superbill, which is an itemized receipt with medical codes, that you may submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many PPO insurance plans reimburse a percentage of the fees for services outside their network. We recommend that you verify with your insurance plan, as we do not have the resources to assist in this process. Additionally, you may be able to apply the costs to a health savings account or flexible spending account depending on your plan.

  • No. Concierge practices generally charge several hundred dollars a month and they bill insurance on top of that. Chia Endocrinology & Wellness provides time and access for a reasonable price without billing insurance.

  • Yes, maintaining health insurance is highly recommended. While our clinic handles your care, insurance is essential for covering catastrophic health events such as emergency care, hospitalizations or surgeries. Also, you may use medical insurance to pay for services provided by outside vendors for labs, imaging, medications, and durable medical equipment. Additionally, we advise keeping up regular appointments with your primary care physician to ensure comprehensive health management.

  • For the initial consultation and for subsequent visits for non-members (ie, pay-per-visit), payment is required at the time of your appointment or service. If you are on a membership plan, you have the flexibility to select your billing cycle—monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually.

  • As a new patient, we strive to see you within 2-3 days. Your initial consultation will be a full 60 minutes, allowing Dr. Hasan ample time to get to know you and address all your questions and concerns. Our established members enjoy exceptionally short waiting times, averaging just 1-2 days; and they benefit from instant access to Dr. Hasan via text, email, and our secure Patient Portal.

  • The word "Chia" translates to "mountain" in Kurdish, a nod to the mountainous landscape of Dr. Hasan's first hometown in Iraqi Kurdistan. Dr. Hasan's affinity for mountains goes beyond their breathtaking vistas and ancient grandeur; they symbolize resilience, tranquility, and the exhilarating challenge of hiking.

For him, mountains are powerful metaphors for life’s journeys and challenges. Reflecting this philosophy, one of Dr. Hasan's favorite quotes by TV personality Andy Rooney resonates deeply: "Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it." This encapsulates the joy and personal growth found not just in reaching the peak but in the journey toward it.
